The 25th July 2019 saw Macmillan’s official thanking day, a day they chose to recognise all those who have supported them over the last year. It coincided with the release of their 2018 annual report detailing just how they have supported cancer sufferers in that year.

Asbestos Justice Support

As a regular supporter and donator to Macmillan, having donated a total of £35,762.64, we received our own personal thank you for all our fundraising efforts over the last 12 months. It reminded us of the good work we do to help people suffering with cancer generally but more specifically those suffering with asbestos-related cancers such as lung cancer and mesothelioma. We support those people through charitable donations but also through the legal work we do in securing them much needed compensation.

How are the donations spent?

The money donated to Macmillan helped make a difference to the 1.9 million people living with cancer last year. That included funding which allowed the Macmillan support line to help 7,490 people who called for help and support in the North West. Those dealing with the calls help answer medical questions, financial questions and sometimes just offer a listening ear. The support line helped 102,000 nationwide.

The money also helped to fund the Mobile Cancer Information and Support Service enabling it to tour the country during the year. The service offered free and confidential information to more than 261,000 people.

Plans for 2019

Macmillan are planning to increase their services over the next 5 years with extended opening hours for the Support Line and more professionals offering advice and support. Their aim is to help everyone with cancer live life as fully as they can, providing physical, financial and emotional support.

Over the last 12 months, we have donated £3,648.70 to Macmillan, and we look forward to trying to improve upon this in the forthcoming year. We already have several fundraising events planned, including a charity gig on 1st November featuring our very own James Cameron and his band, the Eskimo Spies. This event has become an annual event which last year raised over £2,000. We also look forward to taking part in Macmillan’s coffee morning on 27th September 2019.
