Between 2015 and 2017, there were 2,727 new cases of mesothelioma diagnosed. In that same period, there were 2,490 deaths due to mesothelioma and between 2013 and 2017, only 7% of mesothelioma patients survived for 5 years or more after diagnosis.

Although the above figures look high, mesothelioma is, thankfully, a rare disease. We are often contacted by clients who have been diagnosed with the incurable cancer and don’t know where to turn. Most people don’t know anyone else who has had the condition and are looking for help and guidance to help them with their fight against mesothelioma.

There are support groups across the country where people with mesothelioma and other asbestos-related conditions can find help with coping with their disease.

All-Wales Specialist Mesothelioma service

Mesothelioma UK, a charity supporting people with asbestos cancer, has recently launched a new project to support mesothelioma patients in Wales. The All-Wales Specialist Mesothelioma service will be lead by Sarah Morgan, a Mesothelioma UK Clinical Nurse Specialist.

The project has been funded by Mesothelioma UK along with the Burdette Trust for Nursing and will give support to the approximately 100 patients diagnosed with mesothelioma each year in Wales. The specialist support that the project will provide will allow patients to access the best treatment and advice, including information on available clinical trials.

This is great news for mesothelioma patients in Wales and we wish all those involved in the project the very best for its success.

If you require assistance in pursuing an asbestos compensation claim for mesothelioma or other asbestos disease then please contact us today on our freephone number 0800 038 6767. Alternatively, head over to the ‘Contact Us’ page, complete the form and we will be in touch.
