In two weeks, along with people all over the country, we will be marking Action Mesothelioma Day. The day, which is to raise awareness of the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma, occurs on the first Friday of July each year and this year falls on the 1st of July.
Light your town up
This year we are taking part in Action Meso’s “Go Blue for Meso” campaign. The campaign aims to raise awareness of mesothelioma and highlight the dangers of asbestos by lighting landmarks across the country in blue.
We have managed to get our hometown, Chester, to light up three local landmarks in blue for the occasion. Chester Eastgate Clock, the second most photographed clock in the UK, Chester Town Hall and the Newgate Arch Bridge will all be blue for the evening.
We will of course be visiting the sites and sharing photographs of them, to help promote the event and raise awareness of mesothelioma.

What is mesothelioma?
Mesothelioma is a terminal cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. It can take between 10 and 50 years for someone to develop the cancer, following exposure to asbestos. Thankfully, not everyone who has been exposed to asbestos goes on to develop an asbestos related condition but there are around 2,500 people a year sadly diagnosed with mesothelioma in the UK.
