A former shop worker who was exposed to asbestos during building works was sadly diagnosed with mesothelioma at the age of just 59.
Lynne Mitchell began suffering with a persistent pain in her side in early 2016, she had also lost weight. After seeking medical advice and undergoing investigations, she was diagnosed with mesothelioma.
Asbestos exposure at Boots store in Exeter
Mrs Mitchell was exposed to asbestos when working in Boots on Exeter High Street between approximately 1974 and 1986 when she was employed as a make-up consultant. In around 1975, shortly after she began working there, the store was extended to include adjoining empty stores. This is when it is believed that Lynne was exposed to the deadly asbestos.
The building work took around six months to complete and throughout this time the shop environment was very dusty. Mrs Mitchell would sweep up and dust the counters throughout the day to ensure it was clean for customers.
Liability admitted and settlement reached
Boots UK Ltd admitted liability for Mrs Mitchell’s condition and a six-figure settlement was reached.
