Each year on the first Friday of July we recognise Action Mesothelioma Day. This is a day when those who have been affected by mesothelioma come together to remember lost loved ones, learn from experts on the disease and raise awareness of this terrible condition in the hopes of preventing others from suffering.
As a firm, our chosen charity is Macmillan Cancer Support. We have been fundraising for them for more than 15 years and we often try to combine Action Mesothelioma Day with a charity event.
This year, one of our solicitors, James Cameron, put his love of cycling to good use with a 100km bike ride in memory of his past clients.
James has been part of the Asbestos Justice team for nearly 15 years and over that time has recovered millions in compensation for people with mesothelioma and other asbestos diseases. He finds the work to be extremely rewarding as, although no amount of money can make up for the loss of someone or for ill health, a successful claim does give those affected a sense of justice for holding the negligent parties to account for the damage they have caused.
James had an early start for the ride; “We started out at 7am and rode from Tenby down to the beautifully, unspoilt Freshwater East to take in the breath taking scenery and then along up through Haverfordwest, riding the well mapped out cycle paths running alongside the picturesque lakes and countryside of Pembrokeshire, ending up just short of the smallest City in Wales, St David’s and then rode back. The ride out was a lot easier than the road back and the climbs were certainly a struggle as this was the longest road ride I had ever done. My past clients were at the forefront of my mind when battling through the lactic acid in the quads and we end up back in sunny Tenby by 1pm for a much needed shower and lunch.”
James’ fundraising efforts have taken our total raised for Macmillan Cancer Support over £40,000! As a small team, we are extremely proud of this achievement and hope that the funds have helped the charity with their invaluable work, supporting those affected by cancer.
