Today, 28th April, marks International Workers’ Memorial Day, a day set aside to remember those who have sadly lost their lives due to work.
This is a particularly important day for everyone here at Asbestos Justice as many of our clients have been affected by asbestos through work, whether they have worked with asbestos themselves or have loved ones who have worked with the harmful material.
The theme of the day this year is “Strong Laws – Strong enforcement – Strong Unions”. While there are already strong laws in relation to asbestos in the UK, we often find that the enforcement of these is still very much lacking. Sadly we regularly hear about companies who have failed to protect their employees from the dangers of asbestos. Whilst the companies are reprimanded by the HSE and taken to Court, where they are fined, this does not help the people who have already been put at risk by being exposed to harmful amounts of asbestos.
We look forward to a time where people are no longer exposed to asbestos and we can finally say that asbestos is a thing of the past.
