Our client was exposed to asbestos whilst working for Varley & Gullivers Limited in the early 1970s.
He was employed as a labourer with the company on a building site in Alfred Street, Sparkbrook, Birmingham and worked on the erection of a large factory. During this job he came into contact with a vast amount of asbestos dust on a daily basis.
Our client assisted in the erection of asbestos corrugated ceilings and walls. He would hold the asbestos sheets on a workbench while they were cut to various sizes. This would create a lot of asbestos dust which our client would breathe in. After the asbestos sheets had been cut he would carry them to where they were to be installed. He would hold them in place while they were being drilled into place. Again, the drilling of the asbestos sheets created a lot of dust which he breathed in. Often the asbestos was being drilled at height and the dust would fall down onto him and cover him. The air was thick with dust.
This was the only period of exposure to asbestos our client suffered throughout the course of his working life.
Peritoneal mesothelioma is considered to be the most painful form of this terrible asbestos related cancer and as a result we were able to recover a figure of £135,000.00 in mesothelioma compensation on his behalf.
