Asbestos Justice has recently succeeded in recovering mesothelioma compensation on behalf of Mrs B, who sadly lost her husband to the incurable asbestos-related cancer on 31st December 2020.
William Freer Limited of Leicester
Mr B worked for William Freer Limited of Leicester between 1963 and 1978 as an apprentice plumber and then later in a fully qualified capacity. This was a large plumbing and heating company based in the local area and he worked on the plumbing and drainage side of the business, where he regularly came into contact with harmful amounts of asbestos dust in his work.
Various Polluting Company Sites
A detailed witness statement was taken from Mr B in support of his mesothelioma claim and he could remember being exposed to airborne asbestos dust in his work when working at various sites for the company, including at Whitehall School, Ethel Road, Leicester. He also suffered further exposure to asbestos dust when he worked at the Glenfield Road Hospital, which was a local psychiatric hospital. He also spent time working at a number of Marks & Spencer stores in Barnsley, Huddersfield, Doncaster and Nottingham.
Mr B worked at the Glenfield Road hospital at some point during the 1970s and worked at the school towards the end of his apprenticeship. He worked in a boiler room at the hospital and in the pipe ducts at the school, below ground level, maintaining the heating system.
The boiler room had a large industrial boiler with a vast amount of pipework leading from it which was all lagged with asbestos lagging. It was described as being old and in a state of disrepair. Mr B could see the dust from the lagging filling the confines of the boiler room and could not help but breathe it in.
Heavy Exposure from Pipe Lagging
As part of his work, Mr B had to remove sections of the asbestos lagging with his bare hands in order to attend to necessary repairs to the pipework. As he did this, a great deal of asbestos dust was released into the atmosphere, which would cover his clothes and he breathed this in on a regular basis, without ever being provided with any form of mask to wear by the company.
Following Mr B’s sad passing, his widow continued with the claim and a medical report was obtained in support of the case for mesothelioma compensation. This confirmed that it was the exposure Mr B had suffered at the hands of William Freer Limited that had caused his terminal disease.
Significant Compensation Awarded
We were successful in recovering a figure of £200,000.00 in mesothelioma compensation on behalf of Mrs B who said of her instructed solicitor, Mr James Cameron:
