At Asbestos Justice we are delighted to report that we have recently succeeded in a mesothelioma claim for Mr G, who sadly developed symptoms of the terminal, asbestos-related cancer back in October of 2022.
Asbestos Exposure
Mr G suffered regular exposure to airborne asbestos dust during the course of his employment with Tower Hamlets Council, formerly know as Greater London Council (GLC) between 1979/80 and the early 1990s. He worked for the council as a plumber and came to be exposed to harmful amounts of asbestos dust when removing asbestos panels which lined baths in the council properties he worked on. The material was used for fireproofing and insulation purposes back then and Mr G removed the material without ever being warned of the dangers involved and without any breathing protection being offered to him. Such omissions on the council’s part were relied upon as proof of their negligence in the case.
Difficulties with NHS treatment
Unfortunately, Mr G did not respond well to standard, NHS chemotherapy, experiencing significant side effects, resulting in the treatment having to be stopped.
As a result of successfully pursuing his claim for mesothelioma compensation through Asbestos Justice, he is now entitled to receive the gold standard of private medical treatment to help combat his disease, to be paid for directly by the council.
Oncologist Input
We sought expert input from a Consultant Oncologist who is now advising Mr G on all treatments available to him to help fight his condition.
Such evidence was relied upon to ensure that the council were forced to cover Mr G’s private treatment costs for as long as such treatment is recommended by his treating oncologist.
Door Open to Second Line Immunotherapy
Mr G started his private course of immunotherapy treatment earlier this year and has received three cycles of dual agent immunotherapy to date.
It is hoped that he will soon notice the benefit of the treatment, which has assisted a number of our clients over recent years.
Significant Compensation Recovered
In addition to covering his private treatment costs, we were also successful in recovering a figure in excess of £200,000 in mesothelioma compensation for Mr G, covering the cost of his care and assistance, travel and other items, together with compensation for his pain and suffering.
It may well transpire that Mrs G’s wife will need to cease working in the near future to care for her husband on a full-time basis and, therefore, the funds recovered will assist the couple greatly over this difficult period.
Whilst the council delayed at various points in returning to us on the claim, our specialist asbestos disease solicitors placed significant pressure upon it to deal with the case, which eventually settled, after being run over a period of 10 months.
