We have successfully concluded a mesothelioma claim in just six months.

Mr C worked for Glacier Metal Co Limited in Wembley, at their Alperton factory between approximately 1965 and 1989. During his employment he was regularly exposed to asbestos.

In the factory, asbestos was used to seal the end of bearings. The asbestos had to be broken down and mixed with water to create a sealing compound. The asbestos dust exposure came from corrugated asbestos sheets which our client had to cut. As he did this work, harmful asbestos fibres were released into the air and Mr C could not have but inhale them.

As Mr C was diagnosed with the asbestos related cancer, mesothelioma, we only had to show that he was exposed to minimal asbestos after 1965. It was at this time that the dangers of asbestos became known to employers and they should have taken steps to protect their employees from the harmful substance. We obtained witness statements from Mr C and a number of his former colleagues and were able to show the ways that they were exposed to asbestos.

There is currently no cure for mesothelioma, however patients are able to receive palliative treatment. After being diagnosed with mesothelioma following a biopsy, Mr C was well enough to have a number of cycles of chemotherapy. Sadly, although this gave him more time with his family, Mr C lost his battle with mesothelioma around two years after his diagnosis.

As with all our mesothelioma claims, we prioritised Mr C’s case and worked quickly to settle his claim in just six months. Mr C received over £115,000 in mesothelioma compensation.

While we know that no amount of money can make up for the pain and suffering caused by an asbestos disease diagnosis, the settlement gave Mr C the peace of mind that his family would be looked after.
