Asbestos Justice has successfully pursued a claim for pleural thickening compensation for a client as a result of his asbestos exposure which occurred between the 1960s and the mid-1980s.

We were instructed after our client was diagnosed of pleural thickening and were able to conclude a successful claim for pleural thickening compensation on his behalf.

Our client was employed Loach Construction & Development Ltd, which later became H & E Loach (Builders) Limited. He was initially employed in 1962 as an apprentice bricklayer, although he was required to work on various processes as and when they were needed.

As the company was involved in demolition and refurbishment work, our client was required to remove asbestos lagging from pipes and boilers by helping to cut it away. As the asbestos lagging was being cut the harmful asbestos fibres were released into the air. Furthermore, he also had to shift through the debris and smash through fire-retardant asbestos sheets and boards. He could not avoid inhaling the asbestos fibres and his clothes, hair and skin would be covered with asbestos dust as a result.

In addition, our client also had to assist the joiners in cutting up asbestos boards and insulation sheets. He cut the boards using a hand saw and this caused the asbestos fibres to be released into his breathing zone. Such substantial exposure to asbestos, resulted in our client developing pleural thickening as a result of his many years of asbestos exposure.

We obtained a supportive medical report which showed that our client’s pleural thickening was caused as a result of his exposure to asbestos when working for his employer.

The claim was settled on a provisional basis, this means that should our client’s condition deteriorate or should he go on to develop a further asbestos condition, he is able to return and claim further asbestos disease compensation.

We were successful in securing £15,000.00 of asbestos compensation in his successful pleural thickening claim.
