Asbestos Justice has successfully pursued a claim for mesothelioma compensation for a client who unfortunately suffered regular exposure to asbestos dust in the workplace between 1981 and 1991.
Our client was diagnosed with the incurable cancer, mesothelioma after undergoing medical investigations at hospital after presenting with symptoms of breathlessness and a painful cough.
Our client was exposed to the asbestos through his employment as a caretaker when working for South Wales Constabulary. For this role he was required to carry out cleaning tasks around police stations. Fatefully, this involved entering the boiler and electrics room where the pipes were lagged with asbestos.
He was able to remember that when he went into the boiler room it was covered in a white powder, described as talcum powder-like in appearance. As he went about his duties, our client was unknowingly disturbing dry asbestos dust and fibres. As a result of this disturbance the asbestos fibres became airbourne and were inhaled. His tasks included cleaning the entire room and also the blinds on the windows. As the room and the blinds were covered in the asbestos dust our client breathed in the harmful asbestos dust throughout the working day.
Mesothelioma is a rare asbestos related condition which can develop after minimal exposure to asbestos. We obtained witness evidence from our client and were able to prove that the Police Force had been negligent in exposing our client to asbestos, resulting in him going on to develop mesothelioma.
We were able to settle our client’s claim for mesothelioma compensation for £90,000. Although no amount of money can make up for the suffering a diagnosis of mesothelioma brings, the compensation our client received gave him the peace of mind that his family would be taken care of.
